The 2007/2008 trecycle effort was a huge success!
With generous donations and volunteers from Christy Webber Landscapes, U-Haul, the Bucktown Community Organization, the folks at NeighborHuddle.com, and the Chicago Conservation Corps, we were able to transport over 400 trees to the mulching sites. We are looking forward to building on this success in 2008/2009. If you are interested in joining the effort, please send a note to partner@trecycle.org.
Nearly 300,000 Christmas trees are purchased in Chicago each year. After Christmas 2006, about 12,000 were recycled at the City's 23 drop sites. This is progress, but Chicago still threw 288,000 trees into landfills. We were able to help in after Christmas 2007, and will be back again next year.
